Hydrography

Composed of an important network of rivers, organized mainly around the Congo River and the Niari River.

The department is bathed:

  • To the north by the Léfini, 
  • To the northwest by the Bouenza (lali), 
  • To the west by the Niari River and the Louvizi River.
  • In the center and south, it is watered by numerous rivers, the most important of which are: The Djiri, the Djoué, the Loufoulakari, the Bouaboua, the Djouéké, the Loukouni.

Biodiversity and forests

  • Sanctuary of Lésio-Louna contains: Gorilla and other primates Vervet, Moustac, Cercopitheque of Brazza, buffalo, hippopotamus, bush pig, sitatunga, Duikers, caiman. 
  • The relief consists of hilly areas and two Mbé plateaus and cataracts. 

Forest cover :

  • Primary forest of Bangou in the district of Kindamba;
  • Gallery forests along watercourses and in most valley bottoms.
  • Vegetation essentially made up of grassy and wooded savannahs.
