PHYSICAL GEOGRAPHY

Geographical area

Located in the Northwest of the Congo and the northern hemisphere. It is at a crossroad for trade and transit, bordered by Gabon, Cameroon and the CAR.

Flat relief extending over a large part of its territory, rising in the western part of the department and culminating at more than 1000 meters at Mount Nabemba.

Hot and humid climate, with two dry seasons spread from mid-December to mid-March and from June to mid-August

Two rainy seasons, March to June and from August to mid-December.

Abundant rains and average temperature around 26°C.

Dense primary forest and hydrographic network among the densest in the Congo.

A veritable reservoir of biodiversity, the forest covers almost the entire department and is criss-crossed by a couple of rivers.
